The Nanaimo Group of Artists
Founded in 1947 by Jean Davis and Emily Kneen
What a Great Group of Artists
It has been my pleasure to conduct workshops with this talented group for several years. The Nanaimo Group of Artists (formerly the Nanaimo Art Group) was founded in 1947 by Jean Davis and Emily Kneen, and has its roots in a spirit of painters inspired by other painters. In the early years, classes were held in army huts at Pauline Haarer School, the Occidental Hotel and the offices of William Barraclough, who served as President of the Nanaimo Group of Artists from 1956-1959. Currently, the group meets September through May on Friday Mornings from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm at the Harewood Activity Centre. During summer months, members meet at various locations throughout Nanaimo for outdoor sketching and painting. Weekly activities include independent painting and a range of workshops. New Members are welcome. For more information, contact the Nanaimo Group of Artists:
