With four instructors:
Peggy Burkosky, Mark Glavina, David Goatley and Dan Gray

Enjoy two full days of en plein air painting in the picturesque village of Qualicum Beach located in the heart of Vancouver Island. You will have the opportunity to learn en plein air painting from four world renowned instructors, paint within walking distance from The Old School House Arts Centre and connect with like-minded individuals over their passion for art.
Then … on July 28 enjoy the busiest summer day in Qualicum Beach with the TOSH Art Fair and participate in the 25th Annual Grand Prix d’Art painting race with over $1000 in cash and prizes!

Peggy Burkosky will simplify perspective and values to alter mood in street scenes – eliminate distant details to bring drama to the focal point starting with simple thumbnail sketches for good composition, focal point, drama, source of light, palette and basic one point perspective.
Dan Gray will first demo his approach to painting the shore line. He will define his techniques moving from looking at the big picture into detail. He will work with soft pastel, however students can bring their own medium and apply the principles to their own work.
Mark Glavina will help students simplify their plein air painting process, regardless of their experience level or chosen medium. Mark will offer students a strategy for breaking down their subject matter, developing strong and dynamic compositions and simplify their painting process by analyzing the 5 basic elements of visual communication.
David Goatley will begin with a demo: “I will talk about what I am observing (light, tones, textures), simplifying, my choice of palette, composition, and all the little decisions I’ll make as I go along. I will be working in oil, likely with a little alkyd medium to speed drying, in an alla prima technique that also works for acrylic painters.”

Prepare yourself to paint for the Grand Prix d’Art En Plein Air painting race on the next day: July 28
