HOW TO – Beginning a Landscape in Oils

Once we have determined the placement of our shapes and studied what values they should be, we begin considering how color will bring impact and establish a focal point. What will the temperature of the color be in the shadow? Warm lighting = cool shadows and cool lighting = warm shadows. Will the color theme be subtle in low chroma colors or bring a bright playful mood with a pure hue palette? Our challenge is to keep the palette simple and create harmony by making our own secondary, tertiary, neutral and dark colors out of the primaries.
